Dr. Petra Winter, Dipl. ECBHM

Petra Winter is the Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna (Vetmeduni Vienna) since 2016. She got her doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1992 and she started to work at the II Medical Clinic of the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, later she was head of the working group “Udder Health/Milk Laboratory” at the Clinic for Ruminants. From 2003 she works at the Clinic for Ruminants as a professor where she is lecturer to date. She was voted twice for the “Teacher of the Year”. Her habilitation was about internal medicine and clinical epidemiology of cloven-hoofed animals. She became diplomate of European college for bovine health management in 2005.

She was director of Director of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine Studies by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) in Mödling. Between 2010-2015 she worked as a Deputy Head of Veterinary Division at the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES). For a year she was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Public Veterinary Affairs. Before becoming Rector, she was Vice-Rector for Study Affairs and Clinical Veterinary Medicine.

She is the President at BIOS Science Austria, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at Bank Austria Foundation for Science and Research at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, President at EAEVE – European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education, Curator at Forster-Steinberg-Foundation, Member of the Board of Trustees at OeAWI (Austrian Agency for Research Integrity), Shareholder representative at WSC (Wolf Science Center), Member of the Board of Trustees at WWTF (Vienna Science and Technology Fund), 1st Vice President at “Gesellschaft der Freunde der Veterinärmedizinischen Universität Wien”.

Dr. Annelies Decloedt

Annelies Decloedt graduated as an equine veterinarian at Ghent University in 2008. She then started a PhD as an FWO (Research Fund Flanders) fellow at the Department of Large Animal Internal Medicine of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ghent University. In 2012 she obtained her PhD on new ultrasound techniques to measure the function of the equine heart. Afterwards she continued clinical work and research in the field of equine cardiology as a postdoctoral researcher within the Equine Cardioteam Ghent.

In 2015, she was appointed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for the courses “Clinical and communication skills” which were introduced in the veterinary medicine curriculum starting in the academic year 2016-2017. With regard to the clinical skills, she was responsible for the development and coordination of the skills laboratory, where students can practice skills on models and simulators. She also developed the communication skills curriculum and is responsible for both the theoretical lectures and practical exercises consisting of video assignments, role play with fellow students and role play with volunteers.

Her research into veterinary-client communication focuses on the challenges that veterinarians face in practice. This included a project on veterinarian-client communication about complementary and alternative veterinary medicine in collaboration with the Center for Persuasive Communication, department of Communication Sciences, Ghent University, and on ongoing project focusing on veterinarian-client communication about antimicrobial usage.

Dr. Tibor Bartha

Tibor Bartha is the Head of the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest. He obtained his PhD degree at the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium) in 1993, the title of his dissertation: “Thyroid hormone metabolism in broiler chickens as influenced by exogenous and endogenous factors.” Since 1995, he has been researching as a postdoctoral fellow in the thyroid laboratory of the Harvard Medical School (Boston, Massachusetts, United States). In 2003, he obtained a doctorate degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Since 2012, he has been managing the university’s foreign language training. Since 2016, he has been responsible for the university’s external relations as Vice Rector responsible for international relations.

He is a member of Executive Committee at EAEVE representing Region 7. He has also been elected as Treasurer of the Association.
